NSW Fitness to Drive RH

The NSW Fitness to Drive Medical Assessment is anyone who drives and has a medical condition, illness or injury that may or may not affect their capacity to drive.

This form, sent at the time of your birthday, needs to be filled out by a medical professional every single year.

But is this the best way to assess someone’s disability and ability to drive?

Susan discusses how the form doesn’t account for someone’s permanent disability and how the experience can quickly spiral into a demoralising experience.

This is from the perspective of Susan’s disability, Neonatal Hypoxia Paraplegia, but the experiences of people needing to fill out the form have resulted in situations such as doctors being unable to decipher what the right answers are, medical professionals unable to access the portal and repeated visits to ServiceNSW to submit a ‘complete’ form.
