How can we make the education experience better for kids with disability in hospital?

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is celebrated every year on the 3rd of December. The theme for 2021 is ‘Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world’.

Children with disability often face challenges with their educational experience. The challenges are due to accessibility issues, stigma, lack of education on disability for their peers and having to spend time out of school due to surgeries and medical appointments.

Dean Pan, SCIA’s Paediatrics Peer and Family Support Coordinator, talks about the importance of fostering a better educational experience for children with disability in hospital.

Children are the future and improving their participation in the education system is important to create an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID 19 world.
