SCIA welcomes the announcement that from May, accessible adult change facilities will be included in specified public buildings and major public spaces across Australia, such as large shopping centres, sports stadiums, aquatic centres, museums and art galleries, and airports.
Toilet facilities suitable for the needs of people with severe and profound disability will be built to Accessible Adult Change design specifications and must meet the requirements mandated by the National Construction Code.
This very positive announcement will increase the number of facilities that must include a height adjustable adult size changing bench and ceiling track hoist system. This will enable people to get out and about, maybe for the first time, knowing that the facilities they need are now available.
