We are pleased to announce a research scholarship for a highly motivated PhD candidate interested in working on a project that aligns with the SCIA mission. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with SCIA and our members and researchers from the Western Sydney University Occupational Therapy program.
The PhD candidate will be enrolled in the Occupational Therapy program at Western Sydney University, School of Health Sciences, supervised by Dr Rosalind Bye and Dr Kristy Coxon, senior team members. A stakeholder advisory group will be formed in conjunction with SCIA and our members to guide the research project, ensuring that inclusive research practices and a consumer-participatory approach underpin it.
The research project will focus on how individuals rebuild meaningful and productive life roles following spinal cord injury. It will seek to understand consumers’ experiences from their perspectives, identifying supports and services that can improve participation in valued roles and enhance well-being and quality of life.
This research project has the potential to impact services significantly and supports nationally and internationally. By being grounded in the perspectives of people with spinal cord injury and guided by a participatory research approach, it will identify supports and services that enhance the rebuilding of meaningful roles post-injury.
