Spinal Cord Injuries Australia (SCIA) is proud to announce we have secured the contract to deliver the Centralised Booking Service (CBS) for Wheelchair Accessible Taxis (WATs) on behalf of Transport for NSW.
The announcement was made official by a press release from Andrew Constance, Minister for Transport and Roads, and Gareth Ward, Minister for Families, Communities, and Disability Services.
From 1 March 2021, SCIA will be running the 24/7 contact centre to manage bookings for wheelchair accessible taxis in metropolitan Sydney, liaising between customers and taxis to ensure an efficient and timely service.
SCIA’s goal is to establish the service as being run by users, for users. Therefore, our pool of customer service representatives will have lived experience of wheelchair use. Their input will inform the service as it gets off the ground and will be invaluable in ensuring the service we offer delivers what customers want and expect going forward.
While the first offering will be standard phone and website bookings, in time we will deliver an Uber-like user app, a taxi driver app, and voice-recognition booking options to enable customers to engage with the service in a way that suits them and their individual circumstances.
