Lily’s Story

Make a life-changing Tax Deductible donation TODAY

Whilst living in Dubai in 2016, 16-year-old Lily was tragically hit by a speeding car whilst crossing the road. As a result, she sustained multiple life-changing injuries, the worst of which was a traumatic brain and spinal cord injury.

When Lily was in the hospital spinal unit she didn’t have the benefit of having access to someone she could talk to who had lived experience of the same injury. Lily’s spinal cord injury was an emotional roller coaster, which would have been easier with the practical help provided by our Peer and Family Support Team.

She is now sharing her story, and recently organised an event called “Lily’s Legs March Marathon” which aimed to increase awareness on the importance of SCIA’s Peer and Family Support program and to raise much needed funds, so that more newly injured spinal cord injury patients can receive and benefit from peer support services in their time of need.

Lily’s Legs raised over $13,000 for Spinal Cord Injuries Australia’s Peer and Family Support service. These funds are greatly appreciated, but is only a portion of what is needed.

Following recent funding cuts, SCIA is largely self-funding the Peer and Family Support service. We urgently need to raise funds to ensure the sustainability of our existing service and, in time, to allow us to expand Peer and Family Support so that it has capacity to fully support clients after they transition back into the community.

Please make a tax time donation to ensure that we can continue to make a life changing difference to newly injured people with spinal cord injury.

Please also view our latest Impact Report which showcases how SCIA’s services have had an impact on the lives of those living with physical disability and how generous donors, like you, have made this possible.
