In our ongoing exploration of the NDIS, it’s crucial not to overlook the pivotal role played by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). Often operating behind the scenes, the NDIA plays a vital role in the scheme. As we delve deeper, we gain a clearer understanding of the significance of this national agency.

    What is the NDIA?

The NDIA is the National Disability Insurance Agency, an independent statutory agency. Their role is to implement the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which will support a better life for hundreds of thousands of Australians with a significant disability and their families and carers.

    How does the NDIA work?

As a government organisation, the NDIA implements and manages the NDIS. Meanwhile, it also:

    • Provides information and referrals, links to services and activities, individualised plans and, where necessary, funded support to people over a lifetime.
    • Helps empower and inform people with disabilities to be confident consumers.
    • Provides service providers with clarity and transparency so they can grow their business and respond to needs.
    • Raises community awareness and encourages greater inclusion and access for people with disabilities to mainstream services, community activities and other government initiatives.

    A Nationwide Reach

As a nationwide governmental entity, the NDIA extends its services nationwide.

Leveraging an online tool available on the official NDIS website, you can quickly locate the nearest NDIS and partner office based on your residence.
