Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week 2024 is all about strength.

This week, we will be talking about the different ways people with spinal cord injuries can show their strength. If you’ve been watching the Paris Paralympic Games it’s clear that there is empowerment through physical strength, however there is so much more. This week we will also talk about strength in advocacy, independence, resilience and community.

World SCI Day 2024

World SCI Day is celebrated on September 5th ever year. Organised by the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS), the theme this year is ‘End Violence – Protect Spinal Cord’.

Globally, over 15 million people are living with a spinal cord injury. Unfortunately, approximately 6% of spinal cord injuries sustained in Australia is a result of violence including physical assault, gunshots, stabbings and other forms of violent trauma (AIHW).

But we want to use this opportunity to let you know we are pulling together resources on our Resource Hub with information that can educate people about this subject, policy and legislation for victims of violence who have a spinal cord injury, address concerns about the lack of availability of refuges and shelters and any legal advice that may be able to help you, if you are unable to leave.
