The Future of Helper Robots: SCIA x Akin

Akin Helper Robots

SCIA has been working with Akin for over four years to determine a user case for helper robots to improve the independence and quality of life for people with a spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury and similar conditions.

Akin are a valued partner due to their ethical approach to the development of codesigned technological solutions that prioritise the development of data, sovereign to the end-user, that remains constrained to their home. Akin utilise their knowledge from the development of commercial robotics to design for people with disability.

We are seeking interested people who can see a future or who are interested to learn about a future where robots can provide assistance – for example in the picking up of dropped items, opening doors, regulating temperature and other manual tasks.

Anyone who has previously engaged with the earlier consultations with Akin is also encouraged to sign up. Innovation such as this is a slow process but SCIA and Akin are on this journey together to best support our members with emerging technology in an ethical way.

If you would like to join a 1-hour workshop with the Akin team to learn about next steps in robotic technology, please email: sstollznow@scia.org.au.
