This National Reconciliation Week, SCIA staff from all around Australia will come together as part of the Royal Rehab Group Collective Choir, joining the song for the national Voices for Reconciliation initiative.
We’ll be uniting with the entire Royal Rehab Group (virtually!) to sing “Beds Are Burning” by Midnight Oil because nothing says “Reconciliation Week” like meaningful lyrics, collective voices, and a little bit of brave harmony.
Excitingly, this is the first time we will all come together as a united Royal Rehab Group to sing, which is why we have decided to call our choir “The Royal Rehab Collective”. It is open too all staff, anywhere in Australia including Breakthru, SCIA, Sargood and all Royal Rehab units. The Ryde Disabilities choir, comprising of in patience and local people with disabiliies) will also be part of our submission. It’s a truly wonderful coming together of RRG.
Zero auditions, zero pressure, just maximum good vibes for all in a powerful showing of support for our First Nations Peoples
The 2026 song is the iconic Australian anthem is Beds Are Burning by Midnight Oil, first released in 1987 on the Diesel and Dust album, but the song’s legacy has endured over the decades and continues to speak to new generations as a timeless call to action to be All In for justice and reconciliation, and for all Australians to know our history
According to Reconciliation Australia, Co-composer Peter Garrett said he is buoyed that the song is being sung by choirs across the country as part of Voices for Reconciliation.
‘I always felt that this song was like an ‘executive summary’ of the injustices perpetrated on the First Peoples of this continent. But it is more than that, it is a call for action – “It belongs to them, let’s give it back! The song is a call for all Australians to be all in for truth, land rights and reconciliation. I encourage all choirs to sing it with power and passion for change.‘
SCIA staff are looking forward to raising our voices, coming together, and making some meaningful noise this National Reconciliation Week (21 May -0 3 June, 2026). ❤️💛🖤
