Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week 2024 is all about strength.

This week, we will be talking about the different ways people with spinal cord injuries can show their strength. If you’ve been watching the Paris Paralympic Games it’s clear that there is empowerment through physical strength, however there is so much more. This week we will also talk about strength in advocacy, independence, resilience and community.

Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn to see our posts celebrating the week – we encourage you to comment on our social media and be part of the conversation!

    World SCI Day 2024

World SCI Day is celebrated on September 5th ever year. Organised by the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS), the theme this year is ‘End Violence – Protect Spinal Cord’.

Globally, over 15 million people are living with a spinal cord injury. Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of statistical data around this issue, but we know that this problem does exist. Here is what we could find:

Even though these number could be perceived as insignificant, we want to acknowledge that this is over 3% too much and people should be able to feel safe wherever they are.

In addition to this, we want to use this opportunity to let you know we are pulling together resources on our Resource Hub with information that can educate people about this subject, policy and legislation for victims of violence who have a spinal cord injury, emergency information and any legal advice that may be able to help you, if you are unable to leave.

Our Policy and Advocacy team offer individual advocacy for people with disabilities living in New South Wales. If you would like to contact them please email info@scia.org.au.
