Advocacy Advisory Group Peer Leadership Workshops

On the 7 November 2024, the Policy and Advocacy team ran two workshops for the Advocacy Advisory Group members on self-advocacy and peer leadership, to support their local Advocacy Community Networks.

The workshops were held at Sargood on Collaroy where most of our rural Advocacy Community Network Peer Leaders (Peer Leaders) stayed.

The Self Advocacy Speak Up workshop was presented by Daphna Levin- Kahn, Capacity Building & HR Manager and Adrian O’Malley, Lead Educator & Peer Mentor from the Physical Disability Council of NSW (PDCN).

The Peer Leadership Workshop was presented by SCIA’s Suzie Stollznow, Gordana Barbaric and Liala Cadelli. They provided Peer Leaders with information, tips and resources on how they can effectively run their local Advocacy Community Networks.

Lunch was delicious and we were delighted to have been joined by Dianne Lucas, SCIA. CEO. It was catered by Civic Kitchen and Catering, a social enterprise that provides employment opportunities and skills training for people with disability to help them develop knowledge and confidence in the hospitality industry!

This positive and collaborative relationship between SCIA and PDCN shows how we can work with other not-for-profit organisations to benefit our members.

The day was a great success and enjoyed by all, with members saying that they enjoyed the workshops and that they found them very motivating!
