Where are we

Gymnasium
Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association of Queensland
60 Edmondstone Rd Bowen Hills, Brisbane, Queensland, 4005 AUSTRALIA

We are indebted to the Sporting Wheelies for their support by way of provision of the facilities to operate the Walk On program. This support has greatly contributed to keeping training fees as low as possible.

CAN’T GET TO BRISBANE

For those living outside Brisbane or unable to get to Bowen Hills (yes, we understand that’s many of you) Walk On will offer “train your trainer” and home based programs . These programs will require a minimum of one week’s attendance at our Brisbane centre. Please contact us if you are interested in learning more about these recovery training options.

ACCOMMODATION

undefined Accommodation List

If you’re visiting from outside of Brisbane you’ll need somewhere to stay.  We hope this list provides some assistance to you as we are continually striving to find low cost quality accommodation however this is a challenge.  If you find somewhere great which is not on our list please send us an email.

  • The closest (not cheapest) accessible hotel is the Emporium.  From this hotel you can roll to Walk On in about 10-15 minutes. See their website for details of their accessible rooms and best rates.

  • Clients have stayed at the Virginia Palms and Alexandra Apartments but both of these are a little out of town so you’ll need a vehicle or be prepared for daily taxi ride. Buses aren’t really an option from either of these venues.

  • Backstop House is a terrific “cheap and cheerful respite option” ONLY if you are travelling alone as partners are not permitted to stay with you. It’s a 45 - 60 minute drive or train ride from Walk On and the house is very popular so early bookings are advised. There is a maximum two week stay.

  • If you love good backpackers and need two rooms then Bunk is a reasonable low cost, low budget alternative which is a bus ride from Walk On.

  • Regrettably, buses in Brisbane aren’t all accessible but a number of the buses heading out of and into the city along Breakfast Creek Road (just 250 metres from Walk On at the Corner of Edmonstone Road) are accessible.

  • The hotels listed as being in Brisbane are a $10/12 taxi fare from Walk On. There are generally more activities and facilities nearby if you choose a city hotel and the quality varies according to their “star” rating.

  • The Novotel on Creek Street is probably good value and centrally located to the City and Fortitude Valley entertainment area for nightlife.

  • If you fancy the “wheelie friendly” Southbank district the Rydges Hotel has pleasant rooms with a balcony for those who like fresh air in their hotel room.  You’ll also find an accessible swimming pool in the riverside parklands.
