“Lochan sustained his spinal cord injury in 2007 as the result of partial removal of a spinal tumour when he was almost 4 years old. We found out about Project Walk around the time that Walk On in Brisbane was being opened (early 2008), so Lochan was one of the first (and definitely the youngest!) attendee there. We found the whole experience in Brisbane to be very uplifting, and it left us realising that we needed to continue the program back in Perth.
We were lucky enough to find a willing trainer for Lochan in Perth (thanks, in part, to Wheelchair Sports WA), who has been able to keep Lochan motivated and enthusiastic about exercising, and doing all that he can to keep Lochan fit and healthy. Since then, Lochan has been back to Brisbane and, most recently, to Sydney’s Walk On facility. Each visit has given us more information to tailor Lochan’s program to suit his current ability.
For us, Walk On has provided encouragement, which is something that was lacking following Lochan’s initial operation. It has shown us the benefits of an exercise based program that concentrates on the parts of the body that have no sensation, resulting in Lochan now being able to self-support himself on his hands and knees, and to bunny-hop unassisted on his knees. As far as we understand it, a T6 complete paraplegic (as Lochan was classified), is unlikely to have this ability – we believe that these results are all due to the Walk On exercise program (and Lochan’s dedication to exercising!). He is now trying to learn how to crawl, currently with assistance, but we hope that he continues to progress in his ability to move independently. We also look forward to the day that Walk On opens in Perth!”

"There’s not one person in this program I think that could say that they haven’t made some gain. Whether it’s physically, mentally or just the social side of things, it’s terrific! It certainly offers hope”
Belinda C2, Queensland
“Thanks to Walk On I am now fully independent. I drive and can do most things I used to, just maybe a bit slower. Basically, without Walk On I’d be pushing myself around the backyard in Camden and wouldn’t be halfway to where I am now.”

"I am a C4-5 quad since my diving accident in January 2009. This intense training program is well worth while as I can not speak highly enough about Walk On and the staff. Unlike the majority of personal training and rehabilitation for quads and parra's, the concentration is on training your lower half again, finding things I never thought I could do."

"Thank you for all your efforts in making me see my potential and help me gain more improvements to have a better quality of life."
Christine T1, New Zealand
"Walk On will help you reach your potential, will take you further than you had thought possible, increase your fitness and general health and wellness, go for it, only sorry lack of finances prevented me from going further."
Kathy C5/6, NSW
