Rehabilitation and Peer Support

If you have a spinal cord injury or a similar disability you may need some support or advice from time to time. The Rehabilitation and Peer Support team can assist you by:

  • Putting you in touch with someone who has been through many of the difficulties which you may be experiencing yourself;
  • Providing counselling for you, your family and/or carers;
  • Giving you information about suitable services in your area;
  • Supporting or advocating for you when you have difficulties in obtaining and maintaining services;
  • Assisting you to select aids and pieces of equipment which will make life easier for you;
  • Recommending changes to your home, educational institution or workplace to give you better access;
  • Providing a community development role in your locality by identifying barriers and gaps in services and actively lobbying for additional or more appropriate services;
  • Presenting public education training sessions to health professionals, carers and clients in your area on topics such as Disability Awareness, Access and Equipment.
