A national disability insurance scheme was one of the big ideas adopted by the 2020 Summit. Adopting it would remove many of the inefficiencies in the present disability support system.
SCI Australia supports the call for a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). There are clear benefits to people with a disability. An NDIS aims to move services away from being crisis driven to creating a funded environment where services can support a person with a disability and be reactive to their needs.
The NDIS already has both Federal and State support through many people including Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Children's Services Bill Shorten, Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett and former Premier of NSW Morris Iemma.
You can participate and show your support for this initiative by adding your name to a petition that will be presented to federal parliament. Please download the petition document and circulate it amongst your friends. Get as many names as you can to show the positive feeling that there is in the community for this new measure. Please note that it must be printed and petitioners must sign for it to be presented in parliament.
Our voices can help take the NDIS from a widely supported measure to a reality.
